While the "one-hand mastery" and "two-hand mastery" sound good in theory... the weapons in question really are all different in use, and therefore, require different skill sets. The skill and dexterity required to be lethal with a short sword is much different than the brute strength required to be lethal with a mace.
HOWEVER, I am up for a DnD style mastery of this form in which a person can specialize in 1 handed weapon style, 2 handed weapon style, sword-and-shield style, and dual wielding style. This could potentially stack with, say, a sword mastery already in place to make the mastery tree more relevant again.|||Well acording to what We know about barbarian skills now, he don't have masteries, but Two Handed weapons, Dual Wielding and
Shield specializations.
Unless they changed if but we don't know it yet.
But in general, i more like handed specializations than specific weapon mastery, it broads you weapon choice, when you're poor and use stuff you find on the way.
It may by as you say differences in how you use short sword and a mace, but it's even more different if you compare to use any of 2 handed weapons.|||Though I disagree with Blizzard's decision there... as long as the skills that replace the masteries are cool, I'll forgive them : )
