Leap attack mechanics

[:1]I'm looking to build a leap attack barb. I've heard mixed reviews about them and I have a couple of questions I want to clear before I start dumping points in it.

1. Does leap attack still work when within striking distance of an enemy? That is, can I keep leap attacking without initiating the jump or does the game just make those normal attacks? I ask because the game does allow you to continue to attack with LA without jumping but I can't figure out if it's giving the huge %ED bonuses (i.e., can it work as a physical damage variant of berserk?).

2. Does IAS affect LA speed? I read on another thread that weapon type affects the speed of the animation but the poster didn't specify any breakpoints. Other threads say just to get the heaviest hitting behemoth of a weapon and use that.|||Diablo 2 or is this Diablo 3?|||Whoops! Wrong forum! Yeah its for D2...not D3 lol|||I was going to move this, but I see you've already RP'ed it in the d2 barb strat forum.

To answer the questions from a D3 PoV... dunno. Not about the details of IAS or targeting. I can say that leap attack is super fast in D3; much faster than it is in D2, and much faster than the Barb's normal movement speed.

I put a point into it in the Blizzcon demo last year, and used it repeatedly in the huge jail level at the end of the demo, simply for speedy movement. One point was enough to jump anywhere I could click, and it was even faster than the DH's Vault, at zipping the Barb past and over the enemies.

I couldn't spam it, since it had a medium-sized Fury cost, but after a small battle I usually had enough Fury to LA 2 or 3x as I raced off, seeking the next prisoner ghost. And since the Fury was going to drain off anyway, I figured I might as well get some use out of it.
